A rooster is interesting because people see them as noisy, common, even annoying. But actually, they symbolise power, vigilance, pride, protection and loyalty. It’s crazy how over time something becomes overlooked just because it’s familiar. Traditionally, the rooster was respected. In many African traditions, he was seen as a spiritual messenger, announcing the dawn and guarding the home. He represented awakening, authority and presence. When you learn the history of something, you begin to see it differently. You begin to respect it. It reminds me how important it is to value nature and even the ordinary, because we don’t always know the history or the power something carries. Some sovereigns are just overlooked, not lost.
